C.A. Wells returned to Alameda March 14-16, 1997 to teach 3 of her newest pieces and 2 favorites from other classes she's taught. The five pieces C.A. taught were:


Silk Rosebud Scissors Keeper

{short description of image}Create a small three-sided ornament for your favorite pair of scissors using 35 count Brussels ivory linen and Soie d'Alger silk floss in shades of rosy pink. A beautiful berlin rosebud is featured on one side, your initial in cross-stitch on another, and a lacy pattern of pulled thread using the Interlocking Coil Filling stitch with perle cotton on the third. C.A. will teach the filling whitework, Chain stitch, plus a Chain stitch joining technique. Complete finishing is detailed with gold twisted cord and accented with a silk ribbon tassel.


Silk Sampler Pyramid

{short description of image}Amaze yourself with this unique 30 count linen sampler pyramid that features five surfaces to stitch using silk variegated floss of lavender, green and gold. You'll learn sequence stitching and a variation of a detached buttonhole in perle cotton, the four sided, palestrina knot, satin, and Rhodes diamond. The sampler’s alphabet is divided between the four sides with the sampler’s verse and personalization located on the bottom of the pyramid. C.A.'s linen binding stitch will join seams on the diagonal as well as straight seams and all joining is worked from the outside of the pyramid. Dyed-to-match silk ribbon bows highlight the pyramid's point.


Sampler Tri-Block

{short description of image}Create this unique triangular block cushion totally by hand! Join a band of linen embellished with a traditional sampler alphabet around this small keepsake accessory that features antique borders of Cross Stitch on 30 count ivory linen. Special stitches using hand-dyed silk floss include the Zig Zag Chain, Three Sided, Algerian Eyelet, Diamond Eyelet, Hem Stitch, Buttonhole, Palestrina knot, Geometric Satin, Herringbone, Straight Rice, Four Sided and Hungarian.


Sampler Band-Block Cushion

{short description of image}Similar to the tri-block sampler, the band block cushion features three surfaces to stitch - front, back and band. Join a band of linen embellished with a traditional sampler alphabet around this small keepsake accessory that. Antique bands of Cross Stitch on 30 count ivory linen are bordered by Geometric Satin sequence stitching with hand-dyed silk floss to show off those gorgeous threads. Learn the Zig Zag Chain, Three Sided, Eyelet Diamond Eyelet, hem Stitch, Buttonhole, Hungarian, Palestrina Knot, Satin, Herringbone, Straight Rice, Four Sided and Half Rhodes. A sampler verse graces the front of the cushion while your name and year are bordered by a Coil Filling Stitch on the back. Learn a variation of C.A.'s Linen Binding Stitch to join the seams that are pretty, precise and decorative. The inset band of letters allows this cushion to stand alone while you enjoy the beautiful results.


Pocket Pendant

{short description of image}A lattice pattern of whitework embellishes this dainty 3 inch, silk lined initialed pocket pendant. A perfect size for small sewing accessories, this pocket is created from a narrow band of soft white 28 count linen with pre-finished hem stitched edges. Diagonal Double Wrapped Four Sided stitches frame Diamond Eyelets tipped with Palestrina Knots in white perle cotton. Your initial is cross stitched over one thread with silk to match the silk lining of the pocket. You will learn two silk lining attachments techniques. Twisted cord and a vintage button with beautiful French wired ribbon laced through each side highlight a quick finish to this pretty pocket.
